SECOND GRADE UNIT
Jan Ingram's Second Grade Class
For my first placement, I was assigned to Jan Ingram's second grade class of 22 students at Blossomwood Elementary School. Jan has been teaching for almost a quarter of a century, and her vast experience is evident. Not only is she a smart, funny, kind-hearted, nurturing, knowledgable, creative, and dedicated teacher; but, she has become my friend. She was an excellent mentor. She encouraged and supported me. She enthusiastically shared her best ideas with me and welcomed me into her classroom with open arms. She gave me freedom when I wanted it and guidance when I needed it. Without a doubt, she is the master of behavior management, and she has more pedagogical tricks up her sleeve than any teaching strategies textbook. I learned so much from her and her students. I feel more than fortunate that I landed in her room. We had so much fun co-teaching and together we were extremely productive. Toward the end of my first placement, I sent an email to Dr. Vasile expressing my gratitude, and my impressions of working under Jan Ingram's tutelage. The following is an exerpt of what I wrote:
"I could not have asked for a better mentor teacher than Jan Ingram. I have learned so many valuable things from her. She is a gifted teacher. Her wisdom, guidance, and support have made this experience so meaningful for me. Her generosity of spirit and her warm sense of humor have also made it a joy. Thank you."
